Victorian trainer Matt Lanigan was initially hesitant about trying Tvati, but after witnessing the remarkable return of Weblec Eagle, he’s now a firm believer in its benefits.
Lanigan, who trains a talented team of greyhounds, had concerns about Weblec Eagle’s future after the dog suffered multiple injuries, including three torn monkey muscles, calf strains, and an Achilles issue. The setbacks left him unsure if the talented chaser would ever return to peak performance. However, after a seven-month break and the introduction of Tvati into his recovery routine, Weblec Eagle (Barcia Bale x Weblec Belle) has made an impressive return, securing two wins and two placings from four starts at The Meadows and Sandown.
“After his run in the Sale Cup in late 2019, the injuries really started to take their toll,” Lanigan explained. “We eventually decided on a long break, but honestly, I wasn’t sure if he’d make it back to the track—let alone at this level.”
Determined to explore all possible recovery options, Lanigan researched Tvati extensively before deciding to give it a shot.
“I was sceptical at first,” he admitted. “But after reading reviews and doing my own research, I figured I had nothing to lose by trying it with Casper (Weblec Eagle). The results speak for themselves.”
Now thriving, Weblec Eagle has adapted to a carefully structured training program with spaced-out runs. “He loves to race, and he’s holding up well. When I put him on the straight, he tells me how he’s feeling, which helps guide when to run him next. He’s such a special dog—when he retires, he’ll be our house pet.”
Encouraged by Weblec Eagle’s recovery, Lanigan is now using Tvati on his promising young greyhound On The Bit (Orson Allen x Paua To Excite), who suffered an Achilles injury in May after an impressive start to his career. Owned in partnership by leading jockeys Harry Coffey, John Allen, and Jye McNeil, On The Bit had won five of his eight starts before the injury.
“He snapped his Achilles, and we had to get it stitched,” said Lanigan. “It was my first experience with this type of injury, but after seven weeks of using Tvati, he’s back in gallop runs and progressing well.”
Lanigan has also incorporated Tvati into the training routine of another young greyhound experiencing wrist soreness, hopeful that it will aid in recovery.
With Lanigan and his partner, Emily Azzopardi, recently establishing their own training complex in Rowsley, their kennel is going from strength to strength. “Emily had her first winning double at Sandown with Impulse Buy and Stay Strong, so now I need to step up my game to keep up with her,” he joked.
